Fishing Boats - Hulls

The use and performance of a Fishing Boat is determined by the kind of hull it has, and it is important to use the right Fishing Boat with the right hull to the appropriate type of water. Hull is the term used for the outside bottom of a Fishing Boat. There are four common types of hulls of Fishing Boats: flat bottom, semi-V, deep-V, and modified-V.

Fishing Boat Hulls - Flat Bottom Flat Bottom
Flat bottom is the simplest hull design. A Fishing Boat with a flat bottom is very steady in still waters and can be maneuvered with ease. It is a good choice when you go Fishing in ponds or lakes and if you are not after speed. Trying to go fishing with a flat-bottomed Fishing Boat on moving water can give you a jagged trip.

Fishing Boat Hulls - Semi-V Semi-V
On the other hand, a semi-V hull is very much the same as a flat bottom type of hull, but a semi-V has a shallow V shape at the front. With this shape, the Fishing Boat can cut through the water instead of just floating above it, and a Fishing Boat with a semi-V hull provides more steadiness than a Fishing Boat with a flat bottom hull.

Fishing Boat Hulls - Deep-V Deep-V
A Fishing Boat with a deep-V hull has a much angled V shape that runs from the front of the Fishing Boat all the way to its rear. Because of its design, a Fishing Boat with this kind of hull sits lower in water, so it is not advisable to be used in shallow waters. Fishing Boats with deep-V hulls are designed for Fishing in moving or rough waters, since the hull can cut through the current. If you fish with a deep-V Fishing Boat on still waters, you will probably experience rocking from side to side.

Fishing Boat Hulls - Modified-V Modified-V
The modified-V hull is probably the good compromise. It also has a V shape but not as sharp as that of the deep-V hull. A Fishing Boat with a modified-V hull is easy to maneuver. When fishing in moving or rough water, it provides a somewhat smooth ride. Unlike the deep-V, you will not feel any rocking motion from side to side. You can also use a Fishing Boat with a modified-V hull on waters that are not that shallow.

Make sure that you use a Fishing Boat with the right hull in the area where you will be fishing. It will really make a difference.
