Fishing Tools - Leaders

• Wire Leaders
  Wire leaders are six to 12 inches or more in length. A wire leader is used if you are after sharp-toothed and rough-scaled species or when fishing in fresh waters. Some have swivels or snap-swivels to prevent line twists and to simplify the process of changing Fishing Lures. But if you want leaders which are easier to handle and less prone to abrasions, use those which are nylon-coated.



• Monofilament Leaders
  Instead of wire, you can use a monofilament leader when you are fishing in low, clear waters. Since monofilament is transparent, it will appear invisible to the fish. Tie the monofilament leader to the Fishing Line through a Surgeon's Knot. Sometimes considered as shock leaders, monofilament leaders can resist sharp objects and abrasions from rough scales and gill slits. They are used when fishing for northern pike, pickerel, and large species of catfish.
