The term ethics may not be heard as often in today's culture but it is an innate set of principles and practices that recognizes respect and order in the human race. Ethical values are of great importance as these aim to preserve and maintain proper behavior and respect. We may not be aware but most sports and outdoor activities have their own ethics and principles.
The code of ethics in Fishing encompasses many aspects. It is made in order for the anglers and those interested in Fishing to continue doing the sport with the goal of preserving it for future generations.
Fishing Ethics:
- Supporting conservation efforts - supports local resource management to preserve Fishing for generations to come
- Practicing catch and release – knows how and when to fight and release fish in a manner that gives the fish, especially the little ones, a fighting chance at survival.
- Appreciates the importance of a clean environment - A good angler avoids littering at all times. Pollution kills fish. The practice of proper recycling and trash disposal is crucial as it prevents pollution and keeps our environment clean.
- Practicing safe angling and boating – understands and observes safe boating practices. An angler can have more fun knowing that everyone is safe. Safety should be the number one priority.
- Follows Fishing and boating regulations – Observe the rules and regulations implemented in the lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water to ensure safety and order.
- Respecting other anglers' rights – This means being courteous to others and not intruding in other people's spaces. Anglers will have more fun fishing when they respect each other.
- Abides by the law and is not afraid of reporting who is not - This includes respecting property owners' rights, fishing regulations, and laws.
- Shares fishing knowledge and skills – helping others to become better anglers and improving the sport of fishing
- Promotes ethical Sport Fishing - encourages other people to go Fishing
Follow the Fishing regulations to maintain peace and order in the Fishing areas, and to protect the different species of fish and other marine animals. If we all take care of the environment now, everyone can enjoy Fishing and the great outdoors in the future.
