Fishing Disciplines - Marlin Fishing
Written by: cj apelo
Out of the thousands of fish species to capture, marlin is considered to be one of the most challenging. It is not only for commercial purposes but also as a game or sport. Due to the size and power of marlin, many fishermen consider Marlin Fishing as the pinnacle of offshore gaming. It is also noted that not many can pursue this as a hobby because it is pretty expensive.
Blue marlin is possibly the most sought-after member of the marlin family. It is sexually dimorphic (having more than one body form). Adult males seldom weigh more than 150 kg or 300 lbs whereas females may reach far larger sizes well in excess of 450 kg or 1,000 lbs. A blue or black marlin weighing 450 kg serves as the benchmark for a truly outstanding catch. For most marlin species, it represents the catch of a lifetime.
Catching marlin comes in three different ways: Lure Fishing, natural Bait Fishing, and live Bait Fishing.
Lure Fishing
Originated in Hawaii, this is probably the most popular technique used by anglers.
Natural Bait Fishing
Sport fishermen normally use rigged baits. In the Bahamas and the Caribbean, most anglers use rigged Spanish mackerel and horse ballyhoo.
Live Bait Fishing
Small tuna species with skipjack are normally used. Tuna is also considered to be the best choice. Live Bait Fishing is normally used in Fishing areas that are relatively small and easily covered, since the trolling speed is limited by the fact that baits must be trolled slowly to remain alive.
Blue marlin is beautiful in form and has the potential to reach great sizes, thus it inspires thousands of skippers and anglers. Try Marlin Fishing now!
