Fishing Disciplines - Saltwater Fishing

Written by: MonkeyDude

Fishing Disciplines - Saltwater Fishing Saltwater Fishing, as its name implies, is catching fish (whether for sport, recreation, or sustenance) in saltwater. It can be close to the shore or out in the deep sea. It can be done from a pier, jetty, and on onshore rocks, other platforms or on watercraft such as Sailboats, speedboats, and yachts. With water vessels, you will be able to catch larger fish compared to when you are sitting or standing near the shore or on the beach.

Usually, a Fishing Rod, hook, line, sinker, and net are utilized, depending on the purpose. It is not necessary to use a composite Fishing Rod with a reel for the nylon line, there’s always the traditional rod - the long, thin rod with a nylon line at one end, along with a hook or lure at the end of the line. Even a nylon line without a rod, and only with a metal hook attached at the end, will do.

Using nets would obviously attract and allow you to catch more fish. Investing in at least a nylon line with a few varieties of hooks and lures would certainly enable you to catch a wide variety of fish. This is because different fish species have different preferences - some will go for just a hook (particularly if it catches and reflects the sun’s rays), other types would rather go after a bait on a hook, while others, particularly the larger types of fish, would be better fooled by lures, which look like insects or smaller fish. Compared to baits, lures are reusable (and ultimately less expensive if you buy your bait). Earthworms are the most common type of bait. Small fish and even bread and fruit can also be used.

For amateur anglers, the least expensive way to experience Saltwater Fishing would be to start out onshore, from a jetty or on a beach. If you have your own boat, then all the better. Find out if a license is required to fish in the area you wish to catch fish from. If you fish without a license where one is required, you could get into unnecessary problems. If other anglers are fishing there, there is a good chance that you will be able to learn from the more experienced ones. Talk to them. Look at it as an opportunity to connect with other like-minded Fishing enthusiasts.

Do not forget that as a rule of thumb, most fish species which are caught by net or line, particularly from the deeper parts of the ocean, are returned to the sea. Even if there are no local ordinances regarding this, you should give it a lot of consideration. Anglers are encouraged to do this so that the fish species are not driven to extinction.

If you wish to learn more about Saltwater Fishing, do some research online. The best way to learn more about Saltwater Fishing, though, would be to actually experience it. Also, ask others who are already doing it such as other anglers or the people in a store which specializes in Fishing.
