ISLE OF MAN – The Parliament of the Isle of Man, Tynwald, approved new fishing rules regarding the island’s scallop and queenie fisheries.
Starting November 1, any vessel wishing to fish for scallops or queenies within three miles of the island will be required to install and operate approved satellite transponder equipment. Likewise, all vessels operating in the fishery will also have to maintain a detailed catch and effort logbook, which is to be returned to the department.
A 12 hour curfew is also being introduced for queenies.
All of these measures are contained in The Sea-Fisheries (Scallop Fishing) (Amendment) Bylaws 2006 and The Sea Fisheries (Logbook) Bylaws 2006.
