Mayor Missing in a Fishing Accident

Sogwipo, South Korea’s Mayor Lee Young-du went missing along with two other people while taking part in a yellowtail festival when their fishing boat sank off the coast of Marad near Jeju Island.
The boat, captained by Kim Hong-bin, went down 3 km northwest of Marado at 1:30 pm last Saturday. Three local government officials were dead while the mayor and the captain are still missing. Lee’s secretary Yoon Se-myoung managed to find a plastic bottle to keep him afloat and was rescued together with another city official.
Jeju Maritime Police said they were unable to confirm whether the vessel had the correct safety equipment since it did not report its departure.
