A new federal policy prohibits commercial fishing and would give recreational fishermen exclusive access to striped bass and red drum.
The executive order was announced during Bush’s visit to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland, Saturday.
The sale of striped bass and red drum being caught in federal waters, from three to two-hundred miles off the coast, is also prohibited through the cooperation of the Departments of Commerce and Interior with federal fishery management councils.
The order came right after it was declared that the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission officially recovered striped bass and scientists have seen improvement in the health of striped bass.
