Nine fishermen who are currently completing NVQ level 3 training course at Seafood Training Centre in North Shields have signed the Seafish Responsible Fishing Scheme.
The said scheme is a way for fishermen to commit themselves to responsible fishing. It aims to promote environment-friendly and legal practices in fishing to raise the standard of the fishing industry. Through the scheme, vessel owners can prove that their vessel is following all the rules and regulations or guidelines. The scheme includes fishing practice, vessel criteria, crew competence, and environmental needs.
The nine fishermen are currently completing the 2008 skipper’s ticket. Other fishermen are already following the scheme.
For further information on training courses available in the Seafood Training Centre & Anglo Scottish Seafish Training, contact the Centre at 0191 2961925 or 07702042551.
