ST. PAULS, ANTIGUA - To celebrate the contribution that Francis Nunes Jr. made to Antigua and Barbuda Sport Fishing over forty years, on Saturday, 27th September 2008, the 1st Annual Francis Nunes Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament will take place at the Catamaran Marina, Falmouth Harbour.
Owner Hugh Bailey was a close friend and associate of Frankie over the years and looks forward to honoring Frankie at the tournament as do Frankie's family members and close friends, many of whom will take part in the fishing, as well as enjoying the lime.
This new one-day tournament is Antigua sport fishing at its fastest and most furious with eight hours to catch the biggest wahoo, dolphin, tuna, and kingfish (no marlin this time), by a male, female, and youth, plus prizes for the most poundage caught by boats 23 feet and under, and over 23 ft. The youngest angler will also get a prize (Captain's Briefing will be held the evening before).
If you prefer eating fish to catching it, we have an afternoon and evening in Seafood paradise lined up for you. From 2:30pm onwards, food booths will be offering everything - fried fish, crab backs, seafood paella, seafood pepperpot, seafood chowder, curried conch, conch fritters, fish kebab, lobster, and all your fishy favorites through to nigri sushi, waki rolls, and sashimi morawasi (plus some chicken and ribs for those who aren't real fish aficionados). Champagne, wine, spirits, beer, and soft drinks will keep spectators and anglers well lubricated into the evening, and of course, the tournament would not be complete without Chickie's Hi-Fi. Food and drinks are on sale from Captains Quarter's, Kate's Barbecue, Global Catering Services, Kesari, Quin Farara, and the Sports Fishing Club Bar sponsored by As. Brydens and Sons (Antigua) Ltd.
The awarding ceremony happens at 6:00pm and then the after party starts. Make sure you come ready to eat and drink - fresh fish on sale, fresh from the catch, covered dining will make for comfortable sampling of the seafood, and don't forget, if you fill up too quickly, you can always buy to take away.
This day is the opening party, the fishing, and the awards party all rolled into one day! Can you handle it?
Save the date - it's going to be a fantastic day - to anglers who are wishing to take part, please log on to http://www.antiguabarbudasportfishing.com for more information and registration form. For more information, call chairman Phillip Shoul on (268) 726-4700 or e-mail basicblue@candw.ag.
