Bluewater Classic to be Held on August 14-17

The Virginia Beach Sport Fishing Bluewater Classic, or Bluewater Classic as it is known, started off two years ago as a local fishing tournament with two main goals: to encourage conservation through responsible sport fishing practices, and to promote enjoyment of the overall fishing experience in our local area and elsewhere. The first year's tournament was a resounding success on both counts. From its modest start in 2006 with nine boats and 46 anglers participating, the 2007 Bluewater Classic more than doubled in size, despite some challenging weather conditions for offshore! Year 2008 is rapidly shaping up to double in size again! History has proven that well run tournaments can quickly become major events, and the VBSF Bluewater Classic is no exception.
In encouraging conservation, the VBSF Bluewater Classic provides angler education on proper identification and handling of Billfish in its release-only format for those magnificent fish. The 2008 Tournament will promote full compliance with Circle Hook regulations, and in fact will be the first local tournament to implement those rules. Proceeds from the Tournament have gone to The Billfish Foundation, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and other conservation-oriented organizations. Prize categories for Best Youth Angler and Best Woman Angler recognize the valuable contribution and achievement of those groups in our sport fishing family.
This year, a prize category for Inshore Gamefish is again added to further promote recreational fishing for the smaller boats or those not wishing the rigors of offshore angling. There is something for everyone in the VBSF Bluewater Classic, and by preceding the premier Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament by one week, our Tournament can offer an opportunity to pre-fish the offshore waters, perfect circle hook rigging techniques, and fine-tune boat crew coordination in a Tournament format. There is no end to the possibilities this Tournament can achieve. With modest entry fees, great prizes, great events, and a great atmosphere, you won't want to miss this year's Virginia Beach Sport Fishing Bluewater Classic Tournament on August 14-17!
